The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations supports the 2030 Agenda by promoting efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.
Through programmes like the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) and AFR100, FAO works to improve access to finance for smallholders, MSMEs, and forest and farm producer organisations (FFPOs).
This role supports an innovative financial mechanism that improves access to finance through partnerships with national financial institutions.
The National Restoration Finance Coordinator will lead the coordination and implementation of the pilot financial mechanism in Tanzania.
The role focuses on:
Operational delivery and oversight of financial instruments
Coordination with financial institutions and stakeholders
Monitoring portfolio performance and repayment
Tracking results and inclusion indicators (women and youth)
Supporting reporting and knowledge documentation
The position reports to:
FAO Representative in Tanzania
Assistant FAO Representative (Programme)
Technical supervision from FFF National Facilitator and HQ Finance Specialists
Coordinate daily implementation of the pilot financial mechanism
Ensure alignment with approved workplans and budgets
Facilitate coordination between FAO, financial institutions, SACCOs, and FFPOs
Organise and document meetings
Support the implementation of financial instruments and risk mitigation measures
Monitor disbursement processes and compliance
Track portfolio performance and repayment rates
Identify risks and propose corrective actions
Track key indicators such as:
Finance mobilized
Number of beneficiaries (FFPOs & MSMEs)
Inclusion of women and youth
Portfolio performance
Prepare progress reports and contribute to FVC & AFR100 reporting
Document lessons learned and challenges
Prepare technical briefs, case studies, and knowledge products
Support stakeholder events and dissemination
Engage financial institutions and stakeholders
Support the development of investment briefs and concept notes
Assist in working group meetings and partnership initiatives
Advanced university degree in Economics, Finance, Development Finance, Environmental Economics, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience in development/green/rural finance or SME finance
Working knowledge of English and fluency in Swahili
Must be a Tanzanian national
